How to evaluate a computer vision project for carpets and textiles

Separate pattern preparation from quality inspection

Adapting a design file to a different size is not the same workflow as detecting a defect in a camera image. Identify whether your challenge belongs to design preparation, production observation or final inspection.

When evaluating AIZENART’s pattern and computer vision capabilities, define the deliverable: a resized design, a visual alert or a record for the inspection team.

Prepare a representative sample set

Do not select only the cleanest patterns or the most obvious defects. Include different collections, colours, textures, dimensions and levels of difficulty.

Ask an experienced production team member to identify normal examples and cases requiring inspection. Agree in advance how company-owned designs and images may be shared.

Define acceptance and errors in business terms

Replace “it works correctly” with a description of the errors that are critical to miss and alerts that would create unnecessary work. For pattern sizing, specify the lines, motifs and border rules that must be preserved.

Keep evaluation examples separate from preparation examples. Ask to assess previously unseen cases rather than relying on a single average score.

Include real production conditions

For a camera-based project, discuss lighting, viewing angles, movement and image capture. For file-based work, record formats, measurement units, palettes and existing design tools.

List what will change between the demo and production. Evaluate necessary adaptations and which tests can be performed without changing the production line.

Design for human review and traceability

Identify who will review an uncertain result. Ask how the source file is preserved, how outputs can be compared and how an approved version is selected.

Begin with a limited collection or inspection step. Review outputs, rework and inspection time together before expanding the scope.
